Why Name Vanish Was Started

This is the story of Name Vanish's founder and how a governmental administrative error almost cost him the trust of his clients and his career.

Name Vanish was started by a licensed insurance agent who had completed his continuing education courses for his insurance upcoming license renewal. He had taken the required insurance courses while he was at his broker dealer's national educational conference. At conference check out he was given course completion certificates to submit to the department.

Several months later when he was attempting to enter his license renewal information into the department of insurance license renewal website he found that the course numbers he had on his certificates were not the same number of digits as the electronic entry fields on the website. He called the insurance department and was told to submit his license and whatever information he had, and if they had any questions they would get in touch with him at a later date.

Six months later the nightmare began.

About six months later he was notified that the insurance department had audited his renewal and that he was deficient in educational credits. He immediately contacted the department. He was told that several of his course certificates had the correct course name but had an incorrect course number (he later found out that these were the same courses offered by the NASD at that time but had different courses. These were the predecessors to "bridge courses"). He was told that he was not compliant for his license renewal and that he had to take the courses again. He immediately went to an educational service and paid a proctor instructor to work exclusively with him for 3 days so that he could resubmit his educational certificates. He turned them in to the department after the weekend and thought that the matter was closed.

He then received a letter and fine for submitting inaccurate course information. The state offered him a stipulation settlement and told him that if he paid the fine, signed the agreement, and kept current with correct educational paperwork in the future that the matter would be considered closed. He agreed, paid the fine, signed the agreement, and kept compliant. This all happened in 2004.

Flash forward to fall 2009. . . This insurance agent is sitting with a prospective client working on his long term care planning when the prospect suddenly asks the him about the continuing education incident he read about on the intenet about him. The agent was speechless and asked the prospect where he read about the incident. The gentleman had used a search engine to check out this individual and had seen the information in the search engine results. The agent explained what had transpired to the prospect who ended up being a customer. He then called the insurance department attorney who he had dealt with five years earlier and was told that the department had decided to publish all incidents from 2004 forward and that his case was included in the listings.

There was nothing he could do to get the insurance department to remove the listings so he decided to find other ways to effectively reduce his exposure on the internet in the future.

Then he spoke with other professionals in other industries who had their own personal horror stories and the concept was born.
